Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594

Re: An ethical stalemate - APESB and CPA Australia

Are, the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the IPA, CPA Australia, about generating as much money from their education business, so they can remunerate the board and the management team for increasing revenue and membership numbers? Can't comment on CA, but the IPA program is outsourced to Deakin...

Re: ABC - Entry exams and fail rates

That's makes me wonder if they really do care!! We are getting the message that they wanted us to pass and gave us advice such as study hard or attend tutorial. They will not sit down with us who failed many times and show us where did we go wrong! It seems to us we are looking at a very high wall ...

I for one have not renewed my membership. I am part of another organisation where I receive so much more relevant benefit to my work. No spam for discounted courses that "to increase your career opportunities....." I think I get less spam from Kogan than I do CPA. Kind of sad to quote my own post, ...

Re: AFR 25th Jan 2018 Summary of the CPA Fiasco

I read this article a couple of days ago, and question hoping someone can answer. So CPA paid Nine $4.16 million to air In Conversation. Now during that program paid ads would have been broadcast by Nine. So was it a double-whammy for Nine, $4.16m to show In Conversation plus revenue from the ads? M...

Re: ABC - Entry exams and fail rates

Strategic management accounting is one of the four compulsory subject! What is CPA going to do about high failure rate? This is getting out of hand and has been for years! What is CPA going to do about the high failure rate? Keep going as is. Being a CPA isn't a given, it takes hard work and CPA on...

Re: CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

If you have a look at the costing table, annual basic fee would be $2,950, then middle strategic fees would be $10,000 and then Holistic (full advice) fees would be $23,232. It would appear that most of the members that have jointed CPA Australia Advice are those under the basic licence/membership....

Re: Alex on 2GB today! having a good old laugh

So it is actually not his fault !!! No it wasn't, it was Fairfax, tall poppy syndrome. He has had impeccable performance, I mean sold his rights to the naked CEO book but didn't receive a cent, 6 million young people on the naked CEO website (160,000 membership base don't forget). Serious though he...

Re: Competitor accounting bodies target CPA members

Another reason why there shouldn't be that many accounting bodies. I hope that both IPA and CAANZ motive are not to raise their member numbers but rather to stand up for the accounting profession and for us accountants. It is sad that now they are coming out of the silent, why now, when they should...

Re: ABC - Entry exams and fail rates

Scaled scoring system was introduced about four years ago including implementation of computer based examinations. That is when failure rates started to increase. The feedback report has indicated that NO ONE have any chance to resit nor a review of examination results There are numerous people lik...

Re: ABC - Entry exams and fail rates

The main thing we need to understand, CPA or CA is not university, this is what make you become a qualified professional accountant and if the candidate does not possessed the level of knowledge and experience to advance to CPA or CA, then I am all in, to hold them back. Why, because it affects the...

Re: Something Odd About Member Numbers

Having not read the report, are those exam sits the number of members who sat at least one exam during the year, or is it the annual number of completed exam papers? I ask as most members would do two subjects per year effectively making two exam sits per member ie 2017 target of 62,000 would result...

Re: ABC - Entry exams and fail rates

I personally feel the cpa program is money focused rather than skills focused. I will be honest in I failed two units, both times the results for the individual sections was very high, however the final score was always 5 under the passing grade (I passed 3 units overall). Now as a person who likes ...

Re: AFR Editorial 16 June 2017 - Alex Malley must now stand aside

CEO has the constitutional right to attend board meetings. I.e. he does not just attend by invitation, they can't kick him out. This is very concerning given the current state of affairs; how can they have a (theoretically) frank discussion with him in the room? They can't. They could arrange an in...

Perhaps he is also bullying the Board members into submission! A bully don't change overnight. Like the warden from Shawshank redemption! You could see him in front of the newly appointed directors "gentleman put your faith in CPA's constitution, your a$$ now belongs to me". We don't know th full s...
