Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594
A good summary of where we are up to by Joe Aston of the AFR, linked to from here: viewtopic.php?f=5&p=4137#p4137

Interesting that in the board update email just received that Deloittes have resigned as CPA auditors.

Re: AGM Day - Live Feed

Can I just say, we're all feeling disheartened and frustrated, but to those on here who have done so much work off their own bat to have a crack, thank you. It's appreciated extremely by the members who give a sh!t. There's not much more you could have done. I've had issues with a board of a small c...

Re: Proxy Voting at AGM

Yeah, i'm not going to be able to make it, but would like to be able to watch it. I'm particularly looking forward to the musical montage of those that we've lost since the last AGM, there won't be a dry eye in the place as we see Malley having a laugh with Fonzie as we remember the good times. In a...

Re: Proxy Voting at AGM

Question about proxy voting - I did my votes by proxy, but i'm now a slim chance of getting to the AGM but I won't know until lunch time on the 22nd, so too late to retract my proxy. As much as i'd love to vote twice, I don't want to break any rules, do I just not vote at the AGM as I've already vot...

They should hold it in Tristan da Cunha or Easter Island just for a laugh.

Re: Failure of the IRP Final Report - No accountability or responsibility

I spoke to the IPA this week, they are offering a similar pathway across from CPA as the ICAA is and waiving the new member fee etc..

I'll be staying with CPA for another year and probably switching to ICAA or IPA before my next renewal is due.

Re: Accountants Daily Podcast with IPA CEO Andrew Conway

It would suck to go through the headache of changing teams then get it all done and pick up the AFR on the way into the office and see the ICAA/IPA/NTAA CEO on the front page in a compromising position with Fonzie, then have to change again. I imagine the other bodies are conducting their own intern...

Re: Accountants Daily Podcast with IPA CEO Andrew Conway

So much difference on the emphasis on communication and membership involvement. The doozy was asked if they had CPA's marketing budget what would you spend $36M? "I would slash it, quarantine the funds get the brightest tax brains in a room to come up with policy and consult with members." One wond...

Accountants Daily Podcast with IPA CEO Andrew Conway

He says all the right things to attract disgruntled CPA members. Well worth the listen.

Re: What do members think of "InTheBlack" magazine?

When they gave free CPD hours (1.5 hours per month) for doing an online test on the magazine I read it (skimmed for the answers), but since they started charging for that I haven't taken it out of the plastic. Although I do try to read the InPractice when it comes.

Re: Interim Report and Posting Guide

I question whether member numbers and growth should even be a KPI, and should it perhaps be member satisfaction that's measured. I'd rather be part of an organisation with 10,000 members and getting or seeing something worthwhile for my membership $$. To quote the great Kevin Costner, if you build i...

Re: Interim Report and Posting Guide

Well I have only just skimmed through it, will delve in more over the coming days, but initial feelings are of disappointment and frustration. I get that they have to use "management language" and can't just say it like it is, but seems like they've missed the point, maybe that's due to the terms of...

Re: Need to build the fighting fund. 25th June 2017

Sorry, I didn't realise it had been asked and answered already. Alienating segments of our profession doesn't help though, we're all in this together, even tax agents. Thank you chuck_meister for clearing that up in a respectful manner. Agreed, the most important thing is that Brett and the others c...

Re: Need to build the fighting fund. 25th June 2017

Without dragging this too off topic, but anyone willing to comment on the tax deductibility of contributions to the fighting fund? Not as a donation, but as a genuine work related/business expense to continue to maintain our incomes as professional accountants. Coming up to the end of June this migh...

Assume Deloittes is doing the audit on the remuneration report. Wonder if they could disclose if they've even received it yet? Anyone have any contacts at Deloittes?

Re: Messages of support and positive feedback

I'd forgotten about the defamation lawsuit. That was a bit of a fail wasn't it. I think both sides claimed victory. Did CPAA manage win their costs back, or was it another possible waste of our membership $$?
