Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594

A brief note to Engineers Australia members

A brief note to Engineers Australia members I have noticed that you have employed as your new Executive General Manager of Member Services Jeff Hughes. Let me just give you some background on his time at CPA Australia where he recently departed as COO - Member Services. He, as one of the three seni...

The Whitewash at CPA Australia is now complete.

The whitewash is now complete at CPA Australia. Unaccountability may well be the title of the book written in 2003 by Mike Brewster detailing the way the accounting profession ‘forfeited the public trust’ after the Enron and associated failings of the early 2000’s. I think such a title would be jus...

Re: 27 July 18 - "Intheblack" Special purpose financial reporting: its days may be numbered

Thanks JWheldon for posting the article. Its a good article by Ram. I think your comment on the adequacy of GPFS to adequately enable comparability is a good one. It's a fascinating area, and I wish I had the time to investigate it a little more closely because 1. on the macro level questions are be...

An ethical stalemate - APESB and CPA Australia

What happens when the people who set the ethical standards for the accounting profession are themselves possibly guilty of contravening those standards? In other words what happens where the standard setters do not walk the talk? I suggest this is the dilemma facing the APESB, the body established b...

The new leadership of CPA Australia are just as bad as the old.

If ever you wanted proof that the modus operandi of the new leadership of CPA Australia is just the same as the old leadership you need look no further than their answers (or should I say non-answers) to questions taken on notice at the AGM. It gives the impression of being open and transparent but ...

Re: 2017 Australian Human Resources Institute accounts

Its amazing really. Try to ask yourself what is the purpose of the AHRI organisation? Its pretty rubbery and my guess would be that if it did not exist there would be no great loss. That is a critical indicator of an organisation. Brings to mind Jeffersons quote that governments exist to serve the g...

To accounting professionals who are not members of CPA Australia.

Both in Australia and overseas. Especially those in USA, Canada and UK. You may be aware of the decade of scandal at CPA Australia which has recently ‘come to a head’ with the entire board and senior management being replaced. For a brief overview you can’t go past this summary which appeared in our...

Questions for the leadership of CPA Australia

Dear CPA Australia Board and Members, You hopefully will have seen the recent Statement from the CPA Australia Board (8th June 2018) as ‘part of their ongoing commitment to improve communication’ etc etc. What they still fail to grasp are the concepts of openness and transparency in communications. ...

The critical failing of CPA Australia plus a way forward

CPA Australia as a professional membership organisation has lost its way in many ways. Many of these failings have been exposed before the ‘watching world’ and I hardly need to repeat them again (weak governance, scandalous remuneration, poor strategy and marketing, opaque and minimum disclosure/rep...

Re: CPA director Caroline Spencer appointed WA Auditor General

They did answer the question at the AGM. Her CPA directors fees will be paid to the WA gov't. This is the way all directors fees were to have been paid after the initial consultation in 2006i.e the directors fees were to be paid to the directors employers as reimbursement for time away from their fu...

CPA Australia. We have learned nothing

Hi all, Well we have had a few days to digest the CPA Australia AGM and its aftermath. The clear message to me is that we have learned absolutely nothing, and the new board continue in the same vein as the old. Have you ever asked what has been the core problem at CPA Australia that resulted in the ...

Re: Failure of the IRP Final Report - No accountability or responsibility

I tend to think allseeingeye that you well may be correct re the rorting in the NFP sector but I also think that the best way to combat it is to speak up against it wherever you are. I think to wait for 'a stronger activist group or a huge media expose' before any action can be taken is just passing...

I have just posted this video on LInkedIn and shall send to the various university business schools etc.
It is reasonably self explanatory. To get them engaged on this matter prior to the AGM next Tuesday (22nd May 2018)

CPA Australia NSW, VIC, QLD and WA Members especially Read Carefully You are being gerrymandered out All CPA Australia members, but especially NSW, Victorian, QLD and WA members need to read this carefully before voting at the AGM or by proxy. Re: How to vote in AGM 2018? If I can't attend in person?

Hi Magnet, have a look at the Frequently Asked Questions with the Notice of AGM on the CPA website.
It is pretty clear and helpful on the voting process including on the night.
If you attend in person you will receive a voting card when you register at the AGM.
Cheers

CPA Australia members are 'being taken for a ride'.

After all that has been exposed and reported on about the terrible leadership (at both board and management level) and resultant ‘shenanigans’ at CPA Australia over the last decade, it appears we are just being ‘taken for a ride’. In more blunt terms we are just being treated with the same disdain a...

Re: email from NSW Divisional Council

I think you can take it that the board have asked the divisional presidents to send these standard letters out to the members. Hi all, this is the second part of my video presentation. https://youtu.be/i1bR6X61_NE I hope it is helpful.
