Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594

Re: CPA Australia - Member Consultation Forums [sic]

Just a small observation about governance of CPA and CPD hours: registration for the forthcoming "Member Consultation Forums" [sic] carries NIL hours for CPD. Just a small point - in Australia, the plural of forum is "fora".... I object to that assessment by head office on the grounds that this even...

Re: Update on the operation of limited liability schemes for Public Practitioners

Hi all I've just finished attending CPA's webinar on Professional Standards Scheme update. Crikey bob - what a schmoozle is playing out in front of us from the highest level of CPA. To be more precise - on one hand, CPA was promoting and encouraging members to take up financial planning accreditatio...

Ethics and Integrity

For my clients, I have attained the status of Authorised Representative so that the clients can have a holistic (and whole-istic) service. During this month's CPD, the Ethics topic covered "Building an ethical corporate culture". Wow - so relevant to the goings-on at CPA. Let me cite some extracts (...

Re: 17/11/17 Brett's Post Final Email. Special Resolutions for AGM

Hi all Just wondering out aloud if a question for the AGM is "how many members have sought and received a letter of good standing for their membership to be moved over to CA ANZ"? A supplementary question might be "how many public practitioners didn't renew their membership for 2018"? I hope the IRP...

Re: CPA board before Senate Inquiry in Canberra this week

I've just finished watching a replay of the Senate Estimates Hearing. First point: I'm astonished at myself because I REALLY ADMIRED the work of the Senators in that hearing. 2nd point: I'm soooo disappointed in (what I perceive to be) obfuscation and evasion by Messrs Dickson, Hughes and Youngberry...

Re: Time for a change in management at CPA Australia

Hi Brett Thanks for your update today. I toook a minute or three to look at the submissions to the Committee regarding email addresses. This evening I'm updating my tax agent registration and look at what they're asking: Do you consent to receiving information from us (including information that we ...

Re: A Path For CPA Renewal - s249D Call for Members meeting and next steps

BUT we all seek the RENEWAL OF CPA AUSTRALIA. We require a return to: * the integrity of our professional ACCOUNTING & business association; * restoring the central focus to MEMBERS and member service; * a suitable governance structure representing enfranchised members * an organisation structure f...

Re: What sort of organisation should Australia CPA be?

And yes I agree, public practice members have a habit of plastering the word 'CPA' all over their letterheads, paper advertisements, office signs and the like. Please be a little understanding of public practice members - the CPA style guide tells us all to "plaster" CPA and logo "over their letter...

Re: Termination of CEO is only part of the process

Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise, in that if the termination and associated payment are not valid then the directors have breached their duties and could be held personally liable?

That would be a delicious turn of events...

Re: Is the $4.9m Termination payment unlawful?

Hi all Sorry to be a damp squib here...but, given the very reasonable queries about the validity of the appointment of the 6th director - surely we must ask ourselves if the 5 validly appointed directors (which are less than a quorum) can have made a valid termination of the CEO? Furthermore, is the...

Re: CPA Australia - Sponsorship

In my humble experience, I've seen that small business people in Victoria have received the message to seek out a CPA for their tax and accounting needs. On the other hand, in Tasmania the majority of my clientele wouldn't know nor care what sort of tax agent or accountant they get - so long as the ...

Well, a quick squiz through this revealed 100.23 If a significant conflict cannot be resolved, a Member may consider obtaining professional advice ...
