Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594

Re did the form and appointed an individual proxy - since Brett has put some thinking and work into it happy to reward him for his efforts.

Re: D Day has arrived for CPA Australia Members.

OK problem with all this is all the complexity and sneaky behaviour. I gave my proxy to the chairman and the system let me tick all the resolutions - now I find out I am ticking resolutions to vote that will never carry because my proxy only wants to vote on certain points not others. Never thought ...

Re: What do members think of "InTheBlack" magazine?

Most CPA's I know never read it; it goes straight into the waste paper basket. The problem is IntheBlack is almost like a tabloid magazine - great if you are in doctor's surgery awaiting your turn not so good if you are at work and want to limit your reading to high value content. In my view CPA Aus...

Re: CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

Had this discussion the other day. in a world where there is growing evidence that the price of listed shares have much more to do market perceptions, monetary stimulus and news, fake or otherwise who is looking at general purpose financial reports anyway. In a world of instant information the good ...

Re: CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

I call upon all accounting university lecturers, professors and tutors, to start contributing articles in accounting here upon this site, so that reasonable discussions about actual accounting issues can be undertaken. There are so many research papers which raise serious concerns about the effecti...

Re: CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

What these bastards forget is that some of us have been around for a long time.... When the Gov first started to make this stupid system where Financial Advisors supposedly know enough about tax to advise but accountants DON'T know enough about investment to advise(BTW, I've never sold an investmen...

Re: CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

Thank you for that. I had a look and on the basis of what the register says, if 28 is correct, the outcome is almost beyond belief. It is not so much the obscene squandering of member funds but the apparent refusal of the designers of CPA advice to listen to anyone or take any advice from members ab...

CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

Does anyone out there have the numbers on how many members have joined the CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme? My limited research suggests so few members have signed up the whole programme could fold. Moreover, possible members do not want to join because they worry the lack of members means they...

Update on the operation of limited liability schemes for Public Practitioners

Everyone getting this email? CPA Australia advise: 'Further to our communication with you on 27 June, we can advise that the PSC has confirmed a new scheme will not be in place prior to 8 October 2017. This will affect CPA Australia Public Practitioners nationally.' and then say 'Public Practitioner...

Re: Accountants Exemption post 1 July 2016 SMSF's

Just a follow up on A.S.A.P - they are a provider; I think they are great and I like them because they went out and did something. As a forum for CPA's who want to discuss issues, however, I think it is not about A.S.A.P or me - its all about Australia CPA. Refer link to a letter I sent to Australia...

Re: What sort of organisation should Australia CPA be?

Point taken re most CPA's are not in public practice. I guess my thinking is that Australia CPA is by far big enough and should be proactive enough to do a much better job of looking after its public practice members. It can do that an be the professional association of choice for its commercial, ac...

What sort of organisation should Australia CPA be?

It seems to me that ‘success’ at CPA Australia is increasingly defined about how much market penetration it has and how visible it is. It is as if ‘CPA’ is a brand of Coca Cola. To me Australia CPA’s core business should be one best practice and the intellectual pursuit of the profession of accounta...

Re: Accountants Exemption post 1 July 2016 SMSF's

I appreciate that analysis and what you write all makes sense. What frustrates me, as a 'small firm' and a CPA is that Australia CPA seems to have been unable to think through the possibilities of alternative models. Would it have been that hard to allocate resources to 'find out' why 90% of account...

Accountants Exemption post 1 July 2016 SMSF's

My first post – I was put onto this site by a CPA friend of mine. I am a CPA, in public practice. I can think of a whole range of issues where CPA Australia seems to have lost its way and as a result is becoming ever more irrelevant to its members. One example, where I think CPA Australia have reall...
