Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594

Re: Announcement from the Board of CPA Australia

Constitutionally, the Board still must be appointed by the Representative Council.

That is why Dickson has to stay. He is the Chair of the RC.

A spill of the Board cannot change the Constitution.

One would hope the new Board will effect constitutional change.

Re: Announcement from the Board of CPA Australia

I think all who have contributed to this should be very proud. The unrelenting pressure seems to have won out, and fortunately before a public EGM and spill (that may not have achieved the same ends).

Hopefully a new Board will signal a new era in our association!

Re: Independent Review Update

I have just waded (pardon the pun) my way through this.

They want us to tell them what to do ... really ...

I gave them all 8 ASX CG Princles and demonstrated a breach.

I will be interested to see what they do with this.

(e) Professional behaviour – to comply with relevant laws and regulations and avoid any action that discredits the profession. I have been saying for a while that we should instigate disciplinary action against all directors (including those gone) for breach of professional standards. If successful,...

I was curious about the same thing and asked. Apparently he used to work in Executive Education at Melbourne Business School. I did tell him personally that he earns more than most Professors around the country (not all, but some have education qualifications, as I do). He disagreed. The base rate f...

Re: The Representative Council 2017 . These are they.

Dr Finch was not on the Representative Council list when it was taken down in Late Feb/early March.

Three who were ... Professor Phil Hancock. He resigned.

Professor Suresh Cuganesan. He resigned.

Associate Professor Jenny Kent. Not sure, but she may have resigned.

Re: The Representative Council 2017 . These are they.

Given that all CPA Australia put on the website are the names of the current Representative Council, and not who they represent, I have done this little chart to identify who they represent, how long they have been there, and some salient comments. Cheers Nigel Finch is a 'pracademic' from NSW and ...

Re: Representative Council

This is the group to be lobbied. This is the group that appoints the Board. Indeed, a better strategy is to get this group to resign, then there is no one to appoint the Board!

There are some on here with very strong connections to the former leadership.

Re: Board of Directors Applications Open

Given the vacancies they have quoted, they must have chosen the others from May 29.

Can we ask who has been selected? Who do we ask?

Is one of them Youngberry? His tenure was supposed to only until 30 Sep 2017.

Trouble is, with only 4 in this round post-Malley, chances of change are minimal.

Surely we need to do this for their CPA designation first.

We must expell Malley and the crew from membership!

AFR Opinion 27 June 2017

The article below appears in the AFR tomoorrow: The charismatic Alex Malley's eight-year reign at the helm of the beleaguered professional accounting body, CPA Australia is over. It ended with a depleted board of directors announcing his contract being terminated, a $4.9 million payout and a somewha...

Re: Is the $4.9m Termination payment unlawful?

I have asked the Board (copy on Jen Dalitz thread) about the 'contract' they have entered with Mr Awty.

If the Board and strategy remain the same, will Mr Awty not be 'terminated' and receive a similar multi million dollar payout? Is this the exit strategy for those overpaid executives?

Re: Alleged past professional misconduct of CEO

Ok happy to be corrected. Was he working at CPA Australia during that gap? Why was there a gap? It's a bit strange as the appointment is in Oct 2009 and it's in about Oct that the Directors get appointed. You would think you'd quit as Director at the time when they appoint someone to replace you. W...

OK. One for the lawyers ... but could Mr Malley have a claim of unfair dismissal as he was terminated by a constitutionally invalid Board? And, I too am concerned about all this going forward. The Representative Council appoints the Board ... is that not the same Representative Council that appointe...
