Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594

Re: AGM Day - Live Feed

The question is what now? It is clear things have gone backwards. 1. The appointments council where more than half of the membership (ie VIC and NSW) only have 15.4% of the vote. (It reminds me of how Rupert Murdoch controls the majority through special structures). 2. Any dissenting view regardless...

Each year I get an email with CPA promoting consulting services to implement business partnering. This reminded me of the the challenge that the big four had which ultimately required the separation of the consulting arms from their auditing part of the business. Re: AFR 23 Jan 18 - Jeff Hughes out at CPA Australia

Thank goodness he didn't have a three year payout clause hiding in his contract somewhere.
It still rankles that he gets the extra 10 weeks, which is far more than most accountants
earn in a year.

Re: CPA Membership Fees

Well, my CA membership was approved yesterday. Still so sad giving up my CPA membership at the end of the month. Whilst it would provide a certain pleasure to defiantly attend the AGM, it just makes feel sick to the stomach in up another years worth of membership fees for the board and management to...

Re: CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

You know that CPA Advice is such a basket case that the IR simply washed their hands of it and weaseled out by throwing it back to CPA to do a "Post Implementation Review". It's like a burning house and CPA will be discussing how the fire started and how we can prevent the fire starting in the futur...

Independent Review Panel - Final Report

Well the final report is out. After a quick read through my biggest disappointments remain: 1. No direct election of directors. We now have a new "appointments council". Which is pretty much the same thing minus the boards current ability to stack the council with their own appointees. 2. Alex Malle...

Ian McPhee's whitewash on CPA's Alex Malley era is imminent by Joe Aston The final report of CPA Australia's "independent review panel" headed by former Commonwealth auditor-general Ian McPhee is planned for public release this week. My father fall squarely into this group. He is still thinking in term backing up is his quicken with 3.5 inch floppy disks. Everything is paper. I keep telling him that it will only be a matter of time before the ATO stop providing paper forms as I have to help him order it every year. The whole con...

Re: CPA Australia's CPA Advice Programme

Reading through the amended constitution. 13. Capitalisation of Profits (ie issue of shares). I really snorted here, surely with the current situation they should have deleted this entire section! A bit confused about indemnity for legal costs. In the event that action is taken by ASIC/new CPA board...

Any board candidates that advocated immediate action and change were already filtered right out of the equation. All we have is more talk and no action. Of all the directors, I did see only one willing to engage on the CPA Linked In discussion group. What is the point of doing another bench marking ...

Re: Average Salary for Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Looks alittle low for the more senior roles. There is also the Robert Half, Hays and other salary guides that are more comprehensive. In the Vic public service finance director jobs currently advertised have a range of $178-231K salary. Senior accountants one level below there is a range of 115-151K...

So much difference on the emphasis on communication and membership involvement.
The doozy was asked if they had CPA's marketing budget what would you spend $36M?

Re: What do members think of "InTheBlack" magazine?

. As an accounting journal for its members (who are accountants), it has gone backwards. Compare the current content to what was in the monthly journal back in the 80s and 90s, when I actually read the thing from cover to cover. It now has nothing to do with accounting. It's all leadership (whateve...

CPA Victorian Division Update

This was circulated to members of government and other CPA discussion groups. Much as I hoped that there would be pause on expenditure or major commitments until the IRP/new board are in place it looks like business as usual. $'s splashed around in HK, NZ, Fiji and Scotland. Our financial controller...
