Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594
A good summary of where we are up to by Joe Aston of the AFR, linked to from here: viewtopic.php?f=5&p=4137#p4137

Representatives on International Acctg Boards needs reviewing

Let's look in detail at our directors individually so the term 'the board' does not minimise their individual responsibility for decisions made and oversight in relation to many of these issues.

Representatives on International Acctg Boards needs reviewing

Post by Brett Stevenson » Fri Jun 16, 2017 1:17 pm

One of the big problems all this highlights is the standards of accounting. This is a professional issue.
The replacement board member at CPA Australia is a Tim Youngberry who has been our representative (I imagine this is both on behalf of CA and CPA) on the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board. Clearly governance was not part of that boards agenda.
Is this a reflection of the standard setters in the public sector accounting area? I'm gobsmacked.
Ian McPhee is on the IFAC International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants. Can you believe that? What is happening at CPA Australia has made a mockery of ethics. And he is our representative?
Richard Petty is is our representative on the International Federation of Accountants Board. Really. How can we expect to have high accounting standards with this sort of example and representation.
Do I need to mention Alex Malley being the technical advisor on that board. This has to be a bad joke.
He also is on the International Integrated Reporting Council and the Prince of Wales Accounting for Sustainability Advisory Council.
This is unbelievable. With all that is happening at CPA Australia and these people are our representatives.
And then there is Penny Egan who is on the IFAC Compliance Advisory Panel. This is bizarre.
Then to top it off we have Jim Dickson on the ASEAN Federation of Accountants.
Wow. Where is the hope for our profession?

The hope is regular members now take the time to look at where things have got to, ask hard questions and participate in change

Did you also notice that Petty, Youngberry, McPhee etc.. are also FCAs! Which means they don't care that their membership is made up of CPA wreckers! Let alone the AICD who don't seem to care either!! Also what's up with how much we pay IFAC was around $600k in the past but by 2015/16 was up to $1.215M. Do they get paid to do this representation also? We seem to be on our own to stand up and say that this boards behaviour is unacceptable with the excessive remuneration of the board/CEO amongst other things...are an insult of the highest order to the membership. We didn't ask the board for a wannabe C grade rock star for a leader who has/had a God complex with pay packet & excessive promotional budget to match. That is not who we are as CPAs or who we have ever been. Who are they if they don't know that? They are not CPAs. They are not us. We need to stop them from representing us right now. We didn't start this but we need to finish it. As uncomfortable as this is we need to do this.

Thanks. For some reason putting it into words came to me at 4am. I'll have to try that more often. :D
