Can I encourage you to have a read of this summary of the 2017 year that Joe Aston wrote today in the AFR. Of particular note is the section dealing with CPA and the Emperor who really did not have any clothes.
As you read, and remember this is just a briefish summary not touching all the issues, just ask why is is that non-CPA's and members of the public have a clearer grasp of the issues than we as members?
And then ask what lessons have we learned because all the indications are that we have jumped from the frying pan into the fire, and who really cares?
Anyone who raises questions now is seen as a destabiliser. The new Chairman Peter Wilson, who himself has questionable 'baggage'/connections in even being appointed to the CPA board let alone being Chairman, is the Chairman of the new board committee which is going to implement a new code of conduct which sounds a lot like an 'anti-whistleblowing code' to keep the destabilisers and members quiet who do raise difficult questions.
Oh yes, all dressed up nicely to say they want to keep it nice and professional just like the pre 2017 CPA days when everything at CPA Australia was so stable!!!

The most charitable thing that I can say about the new Chairman , and indeed the selection committee, is that they are coming across as arrogant fools who are not equipped to manage external relationships with their member base or the public at large.

Peter may well have had no contact with Malley in over a year. There may well have been no executive relationships between the two organisations. No money need have changed hands. None of that matters....these people seem not to realise how bad it looks, regardless of the underlying substance. It’s Public Relations 101 !

And if their argument is to refer us to the “substance” of the relationship as a defence of his appointment....are our Board so stupid that they don’t realise that the reason we are in this mess is because they went to such lengths to hide the substance of the past: the excessive salaries, the excessive money spent not promoting CPA, the lame member growth statistics. The PR at the time of the AHRI/CPA tie-up was glowing, yet now they are trying to backtrack on that. So we are supposed to believe them now? Newsflash for you, CPA Board: you can’t point to the facts when it suits you, because your credibility is non-existent. You need to rebuild it.

I’ve said it before: This strategy of “nothing to see here, let’s move on” is going to prove very drawn out, and suck CPA into more bad press. Exactly the wrong thing to do.

If the selection process was any good independence from the old board would have been the number 1 essential criteria. I mean the whole reason this happened was for renewal and a fresh start with a new board. Then they get 2 Directors from AHRI. It should have been ruled out on the look alone.
