Merry Christmas to Peter Wilson. When it was suggested that Peter Wilson should be independent of the old board so that we can have a fresh start Peter responded with "That's your issue". Summary of the meeting here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=594

just received an email invitation from CPA ironically enough on ' corp governance' at a charge of $20 members/non members.
now i dont want to sound like the biggest tightass CPA in the country, but where is all the money going to????? what do i get from membership besides the CPA mag. after all the circus that has transpired this year, i still look fwd to the date i get something FREE that adds some value to the membership.

If you're getting 2 hours cpd and maybe a drink and nibbles, $20 isn't excessive . What I have a problem with is CPA pissing away millions on CPA Advice, yet micro-gouging on events like this particularly if the guest speaker or discussion facilitator is providing their time for free.

Having potential attendees make a relatively small contribution probably encourages them to actually attend rather than just RSVPing and deciding at the last minute whether or not to go.

Having said that - going forward, why not provide members with an annual 'credit' towards some of these CPA events, so the member can attend with no out of pocket cost but still bears a 'cost' in using up their credit.

Exactly my experience, having spoken at CPD events....lots more no-shows when they are free.

Another solution might be to sell CPD "hours" at a discount rate at membership renewal time , and then you can spend those hours at CPD events, online, or towards Congress as the year progresses.

It would be great if discussion groups were free. They don't cost much but it would be good to encourage people to attend a discussion group. I think most CPAs do not attend a discussion group. It should be compulsory, may be that's overdoing it but encouraged in some way.
